Discharged from hospital

This morning I went for my appointment with the traumatology specialist who operated on my arm. I was sent to radiology for more xrays and by the time I had walked back to the specialist's room the xrays were there on his computer monitor. Goodness me, my arm looks like a robot's arm, I had no idea it was quite that bad.

Mr Carne (specialist) told me that the main fracture was very long and very complicated, but he made me laugh when he said "very good for me to work on my skills, but not so good for you having to suffer it", haha. He then had me doing a range of movements (phew painful) but I managed quite well. He said it was very doubtful I would ever get full movement back due to the severity of the injury, but I think I can cope with that. Other than that he was pleased with my progress and I don't have to go again unless I have a problem with the screws. Not sure what problems I can expect so maybe I need to keep a screwdriver handy

I was told the pain I get is quite normal and since it is early days really to expect the pain to continue for some time yet. I can live with that I guess, I've been living with it for 7 weeks and I think it is a little less each day.

So, now I feel I am on the way back to some kind of normality, although I have to rest my arm in the sling now and then, things are vastly improving.

That's great news clumsy. As you are coping quite well with the pain and restricted movement, which you say is getting a little better, then things are on the up.
Loved the comment about the screwdriver

Hi Loretta I am pleased to hear your arm is improving, I guess if you take things slowly it will continue to get better gradually.

A friend of mine drove her car into railings and they entered the car and shattered her arm. The damage was so bad the doctors considered removing it but in the end repaired it with pins and plates. She regained most of its use over time

Re: Discharged from hospital

Thank you all. That is one trip I don't want to take again, I can't believe I did so much damage. Evidently the edge of concrete steps are not good things to land on !

I'm glad your friend had a happy ending too Meg.

That seemed like a very long seven weeks. I had no idea you'd had screws and plates in, must have missed that bit. Glad the doctor's happy with your progress and you can remove that sling when ever you feel like it.
