Urination niggles

In the last few years my urination habit has changed. I now get up during the night two or three times. Some days I urinate more than usual. Other days less. I have had a few check-ups at the doctors, hospital, but nothing ontoward was found. No enlarged prostate etc. Is it just the aging process or what? Do you have similar problems, advice?

Yes Jimbo - its a sign of ageing as your bladder muscles weaken.

Re: Urination niggles

My hubby has had that problem for years. He was getting up anything up to 5 times a night & then had trouble getting back to sleep again before needing to get up yet again. After many tests the Doc decided to have him admitted for a - re-bore for want of a better word. I think its called a TURP in medical terms. anyway its taken about 6 months to see much improvement but he's still getting up twice a night.

Re: Urination niggles

Doesn't bother me much at night unless I've been out for a couple of pints the night before, then I wake up early desperate for the loo. But during the day I find I need to go more urgently than before. I don't seem to be able to hang on as long as I used to. If I get the urge to go, I need to go LOL

Hi Jimbo,
Very sorry to read of your problems but you do not have to just accept it as part of growing older. There is a lot that can be done to make your life and of those near to you more comfortable.

I am glad that you have had tests and nothing untoward has been found. However, you do need to be properly assessed to establish exactly what sort of Nocturia is affecting you.

It might be a good idea to keep a sort of twenty four hour Bladder diary for a couple or three days, noting how many times you have to pass water in the daytime and particularly at night. It is also important to note the quantity of urine you expel each time you go.
If you go to the doctor armed with the information an expert should be able to decide on how to treat you.

In the meantime, you can try to make subtle changes such as cutting down fluid intake in the late afternoon and evening such as coffee, soft drinks, or tea. If you are on a diuretic, you might be able to vary when you take it.

There are also antidiuretics like Desmopressin ( Minirin ) which reduces the volume by making it more concentrated that can help.

Of course, It is important that you speak to a professional but insist on getting some help, there is really no need to suffer in silence.

Good luck and hope all goes well for you.

Best Wishes
George.

I'm much the same as Chippy, when I've had a few pints I get up a couple of times during the night, but I do find at 66 it doesn't rush out as fast as it used to, more's the pity, I used to be good at those contests as a kid.

And there was me thinking a fellow member was hoping for some serious help and advice. Guess I was wrong again.

Having a dig at me and Jem, just because you didn't read the OP properly is a tad rude in my opinion.

We were both responding to the "Do you have similar problems" part of his post, not having any advice to offer.

That aside, welcome to the forum GoldenYears. I do hope you come back and chat with us

On the contrary I read it perfectly well and I have no need of taking lessons in rudeness from one such as yourself.
Perhaps your verbal excrement says far more about you than me.

Not on the contrary actually. As for you "thinking a fellow member was hoping for some serious help and advice" No one denies this, but you imply we were in error. The poster asked for similar experiences, Jem and I responded.

Twice since I have joined this site you have had a dig at me, and twice I have responded. If you don't like my posting style, I suggest you put me on ignore so you are no longer tempted to lower yourself to making comments regarding someone you quite obviously consider beneath you, because believe me when I say, If you insist on having a dig at my posts, I WILL respond.
