I can't really get past your lack of empathy for people very easily!

The question itself is rather silly anyway.

As it happens a walking stick can be incredibly useful for support and for keeping your balance.
When I was much younger I walked a lot in the Alps and always used a walking stick on these walks to provide stability and balance.

Yes. That makes perfect sense to me.
I sometimes used to take one when I was out with my dogs over rough ground too.

Not everyone uses a stick for a disability or because they are scroungers!

Anyway there is a simple question there.
You're talking about crutches.

Gravitas may have a point, for an able bodied person, who, tries to pre-empt the use of a Walking Stick, the device seems not very ergonomic.

Anything to keep one mobile has got to be a good thing. Even in hospital I did manage to use a zimmer frame when I was well enough, which enabled me to walk a bit up and down the ward corridor.

Re: How Useful Are Walking Sticks For Those With Balance Problems?

My husband has a pair of crutches and two walking sticks, he's had years of problems with his legs.

I have back problems and I have a walking stick which helps me walk when I'm in pain.

Neither of us claim benefits and we bought our sticks and crutches ourselves. I would hate to think that some folk thought we were "wanting to look deserving" and therefore claiming benefits.
