Today is the Winter Solstice. It's usually the 21st., but because of the timing of the Eatht's orbit, it can be as early as the 20th. or as late as the 23rd. (these dates are rare).
So Eat drink and be merry because the days will be getting longer
Yesterday was our longest day and a lovely cool 23c and raining. A few days before we had temps near 40 and terrible bush fires. It's totally understandable that climate change supporters say it's our fault but I'm still not convinced.
The day is determined by when the sun crosses the Celestial Equator and travels back from the Southern Hemisphere and starts to jog back to us in the Northern.
A bit like someone's birthday .. when we say Many Happy (Solar) Returns.. except we drop the solar bit now.
