Thanks Mark and Apricot, but his words have little or no effect on me, I've come across those who "know everything and are always right" many times in the real world, ignore and walk away is my way of dealing with them. I don't like headaches and bashing your head against a brick wall is definitely a good way of giving yourself a headache.

I lived in a Muslim country for nearly eight years. During that time I was mugged, beaten up and had my handbag stolen.

One afternoon driving home with my DIL our car was stoned by a mob of men blocking the road and I got hit on the head by one of the men whilst he was trying to drag me out of the car.

What for? Simply because we were two European women!

Thank you! I live in Malmö, though I'm originally from Linköping, a fair bit up the country. Anyway, you have me at a disadvantage. I saw the Öresund bridge go up piece by piece, so to speak, so for me it was like seeing my own children growing one day at a time while Uncle Oskar got to see them only at Christmas, “Wow, they've got so big!” I never noticed. It's odd that almost nothing is ever said about the man-made island nearer to the Danish coast, through which a tunnel was dug to complete the Sweden to Denmark connection.



Denmark-Germany have been talking of erecting a bridge between Rödbyhavn and Puttgarten but so far they still use the ferry.

I did see the words of praise for Herr. Schicklgruber but I don't remember who it was who said it or if it was just a small mention to demonstrate how people occasionally feel the need to put someone in power bold enough “to get the job done”. Is he really an admirer of Hitler do you think? Maybe we should ask him.

BTW: You are too kind. I did read English at university as a secondary subject but I've also lived nearly half of my life abroad.

Not sure that anybody on here has been a proponent of Hitler. Then again I am sure some must be able to see good points in any man.

Both. We share them, we and the Norwegians. As soon as a new one appears (from one side) we quickly turned it round on the other and hope we get credit for it. Where I'm originally from Norwegian jokes were as common as snow drifts but now I live in the south and the one you've just contributed is the first one I've seen in many, many years.

That's funnier than the joke! IKEA is fine stuff, but the one who prints up the instructions surely never read psychology.

Not very good at all. I remember, many yeas ago, there was a TV program where people could ring in and give their opinion. This was about '69/'70. The subject of "those countries" came up and a woman rang in to say that "those people" were ... uh .... very civilized when it came to western women, and used her personal experience to support her view. The TV presenter was horrified and told her in no uncertain terms that one simply cannot make such statements about a whole nation/culture .. and she was cut off. My reaction was, "Good for him!" But in 1979 I was in Esfahan. Five days before the American embassy was sacked and the hostages were taken up in Tehran, I was pelted with stones from behind. When I turned round to confront the situation, I was shocked to see a crowd of about 60 or 70 onlookers, although it was only 3 young men who had their hands filled with stones. Not being an aggressive tough guy myself, my reaction surprised even me. Let me just say that I diffused the situation quickly. I doubt they would have killed me but who knows? To tell the truth, I have far more respect for the Iranians than for ... you know. Anyway it's not the Iranians who are causing all the havoc here at home.
