Re: Do you enjoy driving?

Hi Susan
yes I do enjoy driving my little car and we go out and about ,I dont enjoy driving if I have to go somewhere new and very busy with lots of road signals and things to distract, then its not pleasurable for me.
I love the freedom it gives me to be able to get up and go anytime I want

Re: Do you enjoy driving?

I didn't learn to drive till I was 34, and I was always a bit concerned that I would be able to do it, but not enjoy it
I found that I'm fairly neutral on driving. I can do it , no problems, even long journeys, but I don't 'go for a drive' just for the sake of it
Now and again it's quite pleasant if I find a quiet country road, good weather, and so on.

But there's one thing I hate, and that terrifies me, and that's large multi lane roundabouts, as on motorway junctions

I took to car mechanics though, working up to doing almost all the maintenance on my, and friend's cars, including removing & working on cylinder heads. I'm getting too fat & old now to be lying on my back changing gearboxes

I went to several classic, and kit car shows, and at one time thought seriously about turning my Mk2 Escort onto a kit car.

Im in agreement on that one Zuludog...some of the road systems can be very confusing

Re: Do you enjoy driving?

I have been able to drive since I was twelve. It is a useful way of getting around, I would hate to use a bus. I like car shopping and give the previous year's car to whichever of my kids has a need of it.

When my children tell me they no longer think I am fit to drive I will give it up. Too many old people drive for far too long like my mother who was a danger to herself and others!

Re: Do you enjoy driving?

I'm not sure whether I'd enjoy driving in the UK because the roads are so congested, but I do love driving here in Hungary.

The roads are well maintained, with plenty of clearly marked road signs and generally speaking Hungarian drivers are courteous and don't drive too fast!

Even the motorways don't have the volume of traffic you get in the UK and I've driven for 50 or more miles down them without seeing another car!

Re: Do you enjoy driving?

Hate driving but it's a necessary evil as bus services are pretty bad and getting the dogs out for a walk I need to pop them in the car to get to the woods or common.

School runs the worst why people can't park a little further away from the school and walk to it I can't figure out.

Re: Do you enjoy driving?

Hi

I enjoy driving, but mostly because of the freedom it gives me.

I am dreading the day when I can no longer drive.

Driving is easy where I live, a traffic jam is three tractors at the cross roads.

I can get from my house in North Shropshire to the M25 with only 7 turns, but the M25 is my idea of hell.

Re: Do you enjoy driving?

Not any more on roads as they are, the place is a ruddy madhouse and full of complete idiots with total lack of self control and manners.

Then only yesterday my wife said "Why are other drivers not polite on the road like you".

Then parking, what a joke. And old girls on the road.

I like driving but not here now and quite happy cruising at 95mph, it is the other silly buggers tailgating to get past that are a pain.

Also yesterday my wife said "Good Good" regarding the driver next to me at the lights, kid you not I bet she was knocking on 100 years.

Re: Do you enjoy driving?

lets put it this way, I have been stopped from driving because of what the eye specialist said . That was my peripheral vision was not as good as it SHOULD be. Not what is allowed for driving, the specialist at the eye hospital did not take that into consideration.
So now having had to surrender my licence of find up to £1000 I am now a "prisioner" in my own home more or less

If it was not for my OH I would be really stuck as public transport is not that good where I live.

Yes i did enjoy driving and it is not until you are told you can never drive again then it does hit you hard.

The most annoying thing is number plate reading at DVLA distance is no problem and I have been driving with the same vision for many years and never ever had any endorsement or even a parking fine in 55 years of driving .Yes a couple of accidents both by other drivers hitting me but that is all
