Where does the North start?

Hi

The wandering Poinker said anything North of Bristol is "Up North"

My mother always said that Southerners started at Sheffield, but she wasn't too sure about Sheffielders themselves, a bit Softie Southern she called them.

Where would you call the South, or North.

My vote is Barnsley.

Sheffield is North ....so is Nottingham

I lived my early years 14 miles north of Nottingham and I consider myself a northerner so I would say Nottingham.

It depends if you mean north of England, or north of Britain, I live up north to someone down London, but I am a southerner to people in Scotland.

I see I've gone from Official Poinker to Wandering Poinker! I haven't actually wandered!
I've decided anyone who doesn't say "Ooo aaarrr" or doesn't know the "Champion Dung-spreader" song must be from up North. 😉

But true North for me will forever be the place of my birth Lancashire .

I am surprised you still remember where Lancashire is with all your traveling Muddy... but you are definitely strong enough to be a Northener, just like me.

Definitely, If one lives in London, anywhere beyond Watford has always been designated as North.
