Yes I’ve read this before. Way to go Australia.
We have here also. Many places don’t give out bags any more and those that do you have to pay for. We recycle all our plastic materials and use cloth reusable shopping bags.

Well done, indeed, Muddy!

I was in Hawai'i, the first state over here to do so, when they banned the bags. It took all of ten minutes for everyone to adapt.

I hope single use water bottles are next!

Re: Well done Australia

It is not the law but largely a decision by the two major supermarkets not to provide bags for customers.

I stocked up before their ban came in - though I have always used reusable polyester bags - the supermarket bags are useful for lining rubbish bins and collecting rubbish in.

If they had been really serious they would have gone back to providing paper bags but all it is is a money saving exercise, not a concern for environment.

The NSW government has added 20c to the cost of plastic and glass bottles so that people can claim back 10c by recycling them.

Meanwhile the federal government has absolutely no climate change policy nor does it intend to.
