OK still don't get it. ??? Gaffer? As far as I know a Gaffer is an electrician who works on a film set or TV studio.

It's a working class word keezoy for Boss, G'vner, er indoors, missus, spouse, wife, doris, other arf'.......Usually found outside scrubbing steps or nagging to her mates apron clad, arms folded with curlers and hairnet on here in Yorkshire....

OGF, friends are autonomous beings, folks tend to have more as youngsters than oldies, the friendships mostly fade when each autonomous unit, decides to go on their chosen life mission, oldies sometimes make friends with the ex (or new) autonomes once thier missions have been completed.

P.S, many deautomenated folks can often be witnessed recounting the mission, on the Bench, Lazing on a Sunny Afternoon.

Your description OGF reminds me of that series 'Last of the Summer Wine', coincidentally that was set in Yorkshire. There will not be many left like these in Yorkshire, or are there?

OH!..THanks for that. You learn sommat new every day innit! Since I posted I got close. My neighbour informed me that a "gaff" is a flat or small house, apartment etc in English parlance. But now you've set me straight.
