This is only a guess but I am pretty sure the problem is going to be in the supply chain, in plain English they don't have any cable of the right type in stock and the cable manufacturer has quoted an eight week delivery 'cos they don't hold it in stock either and have to buy the copper and the plastic and run it all through their machines

This is all governed by the number crunchers who have deemed that holding stock wastes money. In the 'good old days' at least one drum of the required cable would be held in stock and if that was not enough the manufacturer would almost certainly have some in stock, so the 're-pull' could be initiated within days at worst.

Of course the 'call centres' that they have are located in India or somewhere and the operatives don't know anything (and often don't much care either) Nobody, I repeat nobody will tell you the real problem.

IIRC in Suffolk in 2003 a sub station transformer set light to itself and the power company didn't have any in stock so they had to go to the manufacturer who also only 'made to order' so about six villages were without power for a week, and again IIRC about two were without power for six weeks.

Manxman, you must realise that we live in 2010, no one gives a sh1t for the end user, schools educate our kids to not give a sh1t and the media are only interesed if the story will increasse their viewing / listening figures ergo they don't give a sh1t either.

And we talk about a 'caring society'

Re: Poor Service?

A few months ago some one nicked about 100 yards of the main telephone cable affecting over 5000 homes.

I lost main phone and internet for about 6 days some others where off for two weeks.

It was a right pain.

Oh how happy

We have a land line again.
