The art of texas holdum

I am into this big time on the internet, it does keep the brain very active at my advanced age.

Today I went up to London to see Poker in the Park and listern to lectures by some of the great British poker players( Neil Channing, Alex Russio) and an American one(Jamie Gold).

Anyone else into Poker???????

I don't even know how to play

Always meant to get around to learning but didn't... maybe one day!

Never played the Texas Hold'em version, personally or on line. Played 5 card stud with friends and family, just for fun or for pennies, not real gambling.

Re: The art of texas holdum

My son is a great poker player - in fact he's the only gambler in the family. He plays for (fairly) serious money every Tuesday. I think it helps that he has a very logical mind (Physics graduate) and good maths. He funded his 'pocket money' through university by judicious playing of one-armed bandits. He's the only person I know who beats those things!

OH and I used to play bridge a lot but don't now.

I very occasionally watch the poker on TV but only if I'm really bored and channel hopping through the sports channels (it's not a sport!) and find a sportsperson I know is playing

Thanks for the replies.

In the days of youth my grandmar (early 1950s) used to go to Whist drives where for a nominal fee she could win prizes and have a sociable afternoon playing cards, Probably better than jumping up and down tring to keep fit as is told to us nowadays

Just wonder as Holdem might be consider as gambling does this put off anyone from looking into it even if they never have to risk any money.

There are loads of FREE sites on the Internet where it does not cost a penny to play.

I'm not a gambler by temperament; the house always wins ultimately. I enjoy solitaire, but could never get into playing it on line: the rules are different from the ones I grew up with, and there is just something missing ... the tactile feel of the cards, I guess.

A fact of life when retiring is you have a lot of time on your hands.

One was I took up Texas Holdum playing on the internet and I also got my self an allotment to keep busy.

Today was a new one for me.

Victory Coren(goole) was doing a book launch at the Vic Casino in London and I went.

First book signing I have ever gone too.

Television does show poker late at night which she has featured on, and some of the top players she has played against where there.

Think it is good to get out and do something different and meet people who have appeared on TV

By the way her book is called "For richer for poorer" and is out next week.

Read first chapter on way home on tube, looks a great book, she is a very funny lady

That's a good point Galty - we should all try new things. I can't remb the last time I tried something new! (apart from food lol).
