Prog Rock Binge

I'm recovering from an awful bout of flu, and am at the stage where I feel quite a lot better, but still don't want to do anything very strenuous
So I've spent this afternoon on YouTube binge watching & listening to obscure prog rock bands from the early 1970s

Once I started I just kept following the links -

Soft Machine
Caravan
Hatfield and The North
Fat Mattress
Third Ear Band
Van der Graaf Generator
Henry Cow
Gong

And also found a couple I hadn't heard of, or completely forgotten -

Amon Duul
Agitation Free
Can
Ash Ra Tempel

Surprisingly, I managed to pass my finals at the time!

Well I hope you start feeling better soon ZD.
Thats a nice list I am sitting here listening to a group I can't get enough of.
You may have heard of them.
Not so obscure the wife kindly got this concert dvd for Christmas and this is the first chance I have had since then to sit and listen and watch it.

Lovin it "Bridge To Buenos Aires"

Yes, I listen to the Stones as well, but I've never seen them live; and lots of other stuff from the 60s & 70s

However, among my circle of friends, even bands like Jethro Tull and Pink Floyd were considered mainstream

Prog with less airmiles is good, true prog and clear conscience.

Thanks, but the problem is that once you start, you can go on and on (rather like prog rock itself!)

Caravan are one of my favourites, I have most of their albums, and have seen them several times
One of the best concerts I remember was Caravan supported by Kevin Coyne at The Free Trade Hall in Manchester
In fact i I was, and still am, into (as we used to say) The Canterbury Scene - Caravan, Soft Machine, Hatfield and The North and so on

I like PFM; can't quite remember if they came to Manchester or not, but I have one of their records

A friend liked Rush, but I never took to them; perhaps I'll give them another go

I haven't heard of the other two,
I've found them on YouTube but haven't listened to them yet

You might like Magma - German?
Search YT for 'Magma band' as there are a few similar names
I saw them at a converted old cinema in Manchester

And while we're at it, I like Curved Air, I saw them several times

Once you start following the links and suggestions on YT you rapidly drift in to 'Oh yes, I remember them'

I've got a couple of Magma's albums packed away in a box somewhere and a YT link to them on this PC.
