How Green is my Valley?

What a difference a few mm of rain makes.

Same bit of ground a few days later after a bit of rain

Still not back to full cover but give it a day or two more. The downside I have to mow it! You can see how tall it is already.

I dug down and the rain has only penetrated about 50mm, below that it is as dry as.

Meanwhile in Canberra my daughter's car was damaged by a hail storm

Looking good Bruce. Is that good news for the fires?

Good to see Bruce, but your weather at the moment does seem to be all or nothing!

Grass is quite resilient Bruce, but have you noticed how the weeds are always first to benefit from the rain.
Better oil up the mower....

Good to see some benefits of the rain, Bruce.

Sorry to hear your daughter’s car was damaged by the hailstorm, I’ve never seen hailstones that big before!

Happy mowing!

Looking better Bruce it must have been such a relief to see the rain..
I remember the hot summer of 1976 from June to the end of August without rain and when the rain came standing in the garden and letting it soak into my hair and skin

I'm jealous mate. I wish my "lawn" would come back like that. I'm thinking of laying pebbles.

Re: How Green is my Valley?

According to the radio this morning all the fires are at 'Advice' level and under control. There are now only 60 fires compared to 100+ before the rain.

However it is 30° today and 40° tomorrow and it will only take a bit of wind to push them back into life.

As I mentioned the rain was not enough to penetrate the ground very far according to Sydney Water the rain caused no inflows into the dams because the ground absorbed it all and while the rain was welcome unless we get follow up rains the drought continues.

BTW Dubbo and the central west had a dust storm a couple of days ago so the rain is not widespread.

Anyway when it cools late this afternoon I will get the mower out, This morning was spent setting up the generator because there is a power cut tomorrow while the energy company performs some maintenance.

Re: How Green is my Valley?

Too much excitement for me Bruce, I think I'll stick to South Yorkshire where nothing much ever happens....
