The Big Garden Birdwatch

It's almost that time of year again - January.

If anyone here is interested, you can get all the information you need here:

It is not so much bird watching around here it is the sods feeding the Seagulls that are the problem. Dodging their droppings is an art form.

Muddy, I started to fill the form in online, but I have changed my mind about doing it unfortunately.

I do not like being pressured into having a membership, nor making donations etc.
Why is everything about money??

I would have gladly helped with supplying information on the birds around here, but I do not like the way they are going about it. Sorry.

I agree Mups, bit too organised for me!
Also l believe birds in the UK have never had it so good? in my
road alone l dont think there is one house without at least one
bird feeder in the garden? I remember when l first put my hearing
aid in a couple of years ago, l wondered what all the noise was?
Youve guessed it, birds!

Re: The Big Garden Birdwatch

That's a shame because I saw a beautiful great spotted Woodpecker today on our garden tree. I didn't think they were around this time of year and would have reported it on Birdwatch.

They should make it easier for people otherwise nobody will bother.

Re: The Big Garden Birdwatch

I usually do it every year, compile my check list while watching the birds, then transfer it to the RSPB on line. No problem.
Every year except this, because at present I am not feeding my garden birds, due to seeing rats eating the bird food I put out in broad daylight mid morning. Whether neighbours have seen them too I don't know but they are still feeding the garden birds.

I had rats a couple of years back too, Tiff.
I hate the darn things, and worry about the dogs and Lepto too.

We eventually discovered where the blighters were coming from - the chap next door but one found 13 under his garden shed!

No idea where the rats here came/come from, but I think they have always been here, but never obvious like they have been lately. If I hadn't seen them in daylight I'd not have known, but I have seen them so sadly the birds have to be unfed. I will start feeding the birds again in a week or so & if the weather gets bad.
