The Tree of Knowledge
Under a tree outside Barcaldine Railway Station sixteen striking shearers met in 1891 to form an organisation which became the Australian Labor Party (the pommie Labour party is a Johnnie come lately)The tree became known has the Tree of Knowledge. it flourished inspite of being attacked by borers until 2009 when some ratbag poisoned it.
The tree could not be saved so the trunk was preserved and a memorial constructed which represents the canopy as it was originally.
