You should be careful. Some breeds of blackfly can give a nasty bite. I ended up with an allergic reaction a couple of years ago. I found dousing the with a hose works just as well as anything else.

I haven't seen any ladybirds this year. But what you really need is some hoverflies.

These were on Ivy that was growing up our sun lounge. We had to destroy it eventually as it was rooting into the mortar in between the bricks. It got quite high up the window too, but I was fascinated by the way the ants farmed them.

I have been out to collect some beans this morning and every single blackfly has disappeared the canes are stained black from where they once sat but they are all gone

That's good news Meg, we might get our first meal with beans next week but the plants look just awful, wizened and stunted, the worst that I can remember.

Something is eating the petals of my Clematis Flowers, I can’t see any bugs or crawlie things on or under the petals, any ideas?
