Suspicious seeds

Here's a strange one.
Not sure if this should go in the 'Scams' thread, or Gardening?

Just read a short piece in my gardening magazine, which I will quote for you rather than try to explain:

Quote

"Gardeners are being urged to dispose of unsolicited seeds that have been mysteriously delivered across the UK.
The unlabelled packets were posted to customers who had previously bought items from Amazon and Ebay.

Anyone who has received these seeds should send them to - ' Animal & Plant Health Agency' which is part of the Dept. for Environmental Health."

Unquote

How strange. I wonder what they are?
Might be the dreaded Japanese Knotweed!

Re: Suspicious seeds

I planted what I thought were pumpkins once and got Himalayan Balsam!

My daughter had some multicoloured rose seeds sent to her from China, I told her not to plant them. If she still has them I'll tell her to send them off.

The stuff ( Himalayan Balsam )is rampant around here
It’s so pretty but so invasive .
Like many invasive species it loves our climate - thinks it’s on the Costa .

Re: Suspicious seeds

Surely nobody would be sending out good seeds to total strangers for free though?
And how do they get our names and addresses from Amazon/Ebay too?
I think it's all very odd.

Ooh, I wonder if they are drugs of some sort?

Perhaps they're hemp seeds!

Did she order them Tess, or did they just arrive out of the blue?
Do let us know if she sends them and hears anything back please.

Re: Suspicious seeds

I heard about it on the radio, it is connected to some kind of elaborate scam and people are told not to plant the seeds, not to put them on the compost and to dispose of them with care because they could contain invasive plant materiel or pests.
