In answer to your question, yes, for my closest friend I would not hesitate to drop everything and help. And she would do the same for me. We may live in different countries, but that would not stop either of us.
Indeed they are, and I feel priveleged to know her and her husband. Funny thing is she is a relatively recent friend - only known her about 6 years - and not one of my oldest friends. But undoubtedly a very special person.
It has been said that most people can count true friends on one hand.
I think a true friend will step forward and give support when needed and doesn't wait to be asked.

AB, my answer to your question is yes, I would and have done. My two friends would do the same for me as well. I had occasion to ring them in the middle of the night some time ago, and without hesitation they came round in a shot...true friends indeed!!!
