Misunderstood: The Camel
By kayson · 3 mins · From My Back Roads
Camels have been here in Australia since mid 1800s. Known as a pariah of the desert, camels can be used for production, leisure, transport and agriculture work, but what is not so well known is their affectionate placid and communal nature .
When meeting up with Daphne and Conrad, their camel herd were feasting. Freshly picked pumpkins and watermelons from a nearby farm were on the menu. This is not your every-day herd of camels, each had a name. The patriarch of the herd was first to feed, the cheeky pushy adolescents were next and the young camel playing in amongst herd soon had its snack.
Its mid- summer, temperatures around 35 degrees when I caught up with Daphne and Conrad; the camels were shedding their winter coats.
