I just got around to mending the battery cover on my Olympus SP-560 UZ bridge camera. The cover broke in half some time ago. I've pinned and glued it and hope it will last. It's about 10 years old and not the bees-knees of cameras but I reckon it takes a reasonable photo. Probably better than the compact camera I have been using.

Thanks. I know one of the flowers is an azalea but not what the other one is. Planted in the garden by the previous owner.

The photo below shows where the plastic battery cover broke. Not much thickness of plastic to work with but I melted a metal pin into it from the other side as well gluing it. I hope it holds because I just bought some more rechargeable batteries for it.

A flimsy cover considering it's holding down 4 AA batteries. It ought to have been made out of metal.

I started to take interest in these smaller cameras around the time they started to approach 20x optical zoom,that is scope type views, allied to the fact they often were very good for macro they are good bits of kit.

I have know idea abot flowers but Tessa and Mups are good for ID on plants.

I did think about getting another bridge camera Nom. The zoom levels now go much higher than the SP-56O (18x). Better sensors, higher megapixels etc. The trouble is the price of some of them has zoomed upwards quite a lot too.

Even though the Olympus is a fairly old camera, it isn't bad and I'll hope it hangs together long enough for me to get a bit more use out of it.

Can to cut out a thin bit of rubber and glue that to the broken area so it makes a kind of new base plate that shape ? may be a bit stronger repair.

There was a bit of room for gluing some reinforcing pins into the small recesses below the connection plate. Also melted a pin in by heating the head up with a soldering iron. I felt it sink into the plastic. Doing something like you suggest on the outside of the cover might be an option if that doesn't hold though.
