I live in an area reputed for how hard our water is. But distilled(meant for cars?) is not too expensive

We have drums of it at work for topping up the fork truck batteries.
You can also use the water that collects when you defrost the fridge.

Patsy, with my steamer I use tap water, but there was a little beaker thing that came with it which has a filter in it. I think it's a charcoal filter, but not sure exactly.
All I do is fill the beaker from the tap, wait till it drains through the filter, then pour the filtered water into my steamer.

Get a discallar put on your incoming water supply.

Solves all problems with hard water

If you mean the wires that go around the pipes, tried them where I lived before - didn't notice a difference
