Karens

Has anyone noticed how this word has come into being ?
It’s means apparently an obnoxious middle aged white woman .

Re: Karens

Never heard of it, Muddy.
Where'd you hear that?
Don't make any sense, does it.

Re: Karens

Muddy, l had never heard the term ‘Karen’. I’ve heard of a ‘Sharon’.

There is even a haircut that ‘Karen’ has. Long at the front and short at the back with lots of blonde highlights.

Re: Karens

I really like that haircut!

I remember Kevin and Sharon as slang for a typical boring couple who don't like anything adventurous and are unsophisticated in their tastes and activities. I think it was an 80s thing. A kind of hate symbol of those teens who saw themselves as alternative and cool.

Re: Karens

I once knew a guy who called all females "Doris" not to their face but when he was talking about a woman who was a stranger or acquaintance he would say "this Doris" or "that Doris over there" etc. I had no idea why but then recently I heard the term on "Our Girl" and looking it up it's an army term for a female. Perhaps his dad passed it on.

In the TV series 'Silks' female barristers were referred to as 'Doris' by the chief clerk - I assumed it was a London slang thing.

For some peculiar reason the names Karen, Sharon and Tracey seem to be regarded as rather 'common' - heaven knows why.

Re: Karens

I have encountered a few of these women recently but I didn't know they all had the same name.
