I know just what you mean Carol, that is just one downfall of all that's happening. My lifestyle means I am not a 'day person', instead I am very much a person who keeps very late hours. The local Tesco here used to be 24/7 other than Sundays. My plan was to shop at night, midnight or 2am or 3am, the trouble was 24/7 was suspended, end of plan A. Plan B was to use 'Click and collect', the collection point being just four miles from where I live. That was not possible as I couldn't get a 'slot', end of plan B. I have now found that Tuesday or Wednesday at around midday, when others are at work or eating, is the quietest. Good idea about late evening though, I have checked and that Tesco opens 08.00am to 10.00pm. Being awake enough to drive / shop at 08.00am is, for me impossible, but the late night slot may be better than what I do now, so thanks for that idea.

Re: Coronavirus lockdown: All shops can open on Monday in England

Is it only me who is thinking this is all so sudden ?

Considering the rioters all mixing shoulder to shoulder most are expecting a peak. Well I am for one .

Suddenly it's all gone a bit different since the riots , suddenly the R letter and death rate has dropped , again I am wondering how come so suddenly

The schools were returning this month and now that's been put back till September.

I am not sure how I'm feeling about what we are being told

Please dont shout at me , I'm writing my feelings of concern

Susan, Maybe, because we’ve been stuck in for so long, we have too much time to think!
Then we start to wonder what’s it all about, what’s really going on?

I am just thinking about how many women seem to have to run their hand along every hanger and garment. Then pull the garment out, look at it, let go and repeat the action to the end of the rack!
I can imagine the hanger can be contaminated but can the virus be present on fabrics?

When will clothes shops reopen?

Clothes shops in England will be able to reopen on 15 June, but not all will do so the minute they’re allowed to.

John Lewis will open just two stores on 15 June, with more following a few days later.

Next is planning to open 25 of its larger stores on 15 June. The retailer expects that it will ‘take some time’ before customers return to normal shopping habits, with ‘very subdued’ sales likely at first.

Will I still be able to try clothes on in shops?

The government and trade bodies have advised shops to keep changing rooms closed at first.

However, retailers are working on plans to enable people to try clothes on safely once the guidelines are relaxed.

Footwear specialist Kurt Geiger has said shoes that have been tried on will go into 24-hour quarantine before another customer can try them on. It will also ask customers to wear disposable socks when trying on shoes.

The Telegraph reports that John Lewis is considering either quarantining or steam-cleaning clothes that customers have tried on and not bought, as well as items that have been returned.

Similar systems are in place in countries where shops are already reopening: department stores in Canada, France and Italy have said they’re quarantining and steaming tried-on garments, as well as sanitising fitting rooms between customers.

Other measures being implemented around the world and considered here in the UK include only opening every other changing room and even using UV lighting to kill viruses.
I expect that larger "shops" will follow the "rules" but smaller ones .....

..... and who's going to check antivirus procedures in all the shops in England .....

I go at 8 to 8.30 p.m., it takes that long up to closing at 10 to get all I need & though the Tesco store is quiet, there are still people dithering over what to get so you have to wait til they move.
I am going no where else for the foreseeable future. The rest of my time is spent at home.

Susan, try not to worry about things that might not happen. There may not even be another 'peak,' and even if there is, we will get through it like we have the last one.

I shall just carry on being careful, same as now.
I am not going to get paranoid about this, just keep my distance.
We can only do so much.

There are no clothes I need, so not worried about trying anything on, and I wear gloves before I pick up a basket or trolley anyway - same as when using the cash machine.

At least when we come out of a shop we are back out in the fresh air, so I feel more sorry for the poor devils who work there and are shut in with strangers (and each other) from dawn to dusk.

Small independent shops have no chance, one in one out to maintain SD won't work. Online only may be the one solution they have to keep in business.

Shops in your local highstreet will not be able to cope because people will not be able to keep to social distancing when queueing because a queue from one shop will interfere with the queue from another shop due to how close the shops are to one another.

I've seen it already happen in my local high street, Iceland on one side with an orderly social distance queue, Wilko's on the other side with also and orderly social distance queue and a small gangway left inbetween so people can still walk up and down the highstreet but not enough room to keep social distance. Peope were bumping into each other, there was not enough room for wheelchair users or mothers with prams.

it's going to be terrible for many.
