Are there any sensible people in the Councils?
Because on the continent there is much more land therefo4e it costs less but they do have high rises too.

If you see Madrid or Barcelona they has endless tower blocks in fact most Spanish live in horrible little high rise flats .

This is scandalous and someone should be made to
address why these houses can not be let or sold
Source. Emoov.

Also, there are thousands of empty Commercial properties in High Streets that could be converted to First time buyers apartments and Family homes too. Many Council owned and owned by The Church of England and other rich public bodies
There would not be a housing shortage affordable or otherwise if they were all occupied
Councils do not help private builders with there expensive planning applications and unreasonably refusing building permission.
They just want poor people to suffer while they increase their salaries and live in their detached Mansions.

Its other peoples property

Who on earth wants to live in a council high rise prefab ? They are magnets for crime and make everyone who lives their miserable.

Thats what these ( usually Asian )slum landlords do they make a three bedroom house into horrible cupboard rooms for six or ten people and rent them out .

Why shouldn’t older people have three bedrooms ?
I have three bedrooms
They may still may want their family to visit them and be able to put them up .
They are average houses that are no longer needed as families have left home, perhaps a partner has died. Often the ground floor can be redeveloped for an elderly person who needs everything on one level and the first floor ends up almost deserted.

This happens a lot to people who for whatever reason are unable to downsize. Bungalows are like gold dust and often far from amenities.

You may have three bedrooms but from what you say you are not yet elderly and are still fully mobile. Many young people these days do not have large families, they don't crave a garden and just want a place to use as a workday pad.

It's not for everyone but giving people the option could vastly increase the amount of housing stock available. What's the point of building all these matchbox lego style tower blocks when you can convert existing houses made for real people?

They are usually very nice inside! Often with a balcony to observe streetlife while you sip your wine or coffee. Not sure why similar developments here feel so seedy when in such countries they feel safe and homely.

It's a cliché but nonetheless true - betters can't be choosers.

We're off to Lisbon in a couple of days, can't wait!

... where the average ten story block makes your average Victorian terrace in England look chavy slumland.

Most people in Lisbon also have a second home out in the country for weekends. They may not own it entirely but it's in the family.

Prefabs are single story detached or semi homes complete with Gardens to front and rear, totally unsuitable to High Rise Flats.

Everything in uk cities feels so seedy Annie because of the british
weather and poor street cleaning due to lack of car parking!
