Working out how to light the pilot light on a gas geyser(using long matches) and hence running a bath from it. Getting an occasional electric shock from the metal roll top bath due to the wiring in the house being made from cables enclosed in some kind of fabric cloth, with a lead outer sheath. I too never learnt to swim, i get panic attacks if water covers my face. Apparently , so I was told, at the age of about 3 I fell into an uncles garden pond and a cousin a bit older than me pulled me out. my uncle had the pond filled in after that as I had nearly drowned. Anyway that is what I was told
