Many businesses will be unchanged in structure post Covid. Furlough has helped keep them solvent. That is as I said cheaper than building up businesses from scratch.

Err, no.

Sunak to announce new job protection plans

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-54264689

The move comes after a day of mounting pressure on the government.

Mr Sunak has been considering different forms of wage subsidy and will announce more financial help. He is understood to be looking at options including a salary top-up scheme, similar to those already operating in France and Germany.

At the same time, the Treasury said there would be no Budget this autumn. The PM said Mr Sunak was working on "creative and imaginative" solutions.
Obviously the Chancellor will considering solutions that cost less than £80bn .....

Forget furlough - that was / is a terrible if well intentioned mistake. Mass layoffs with means tested Benefits was the way to have gone and should've taking place now
Its alright union bashing, the Chief to Indian ratio was also a problem in which, the Chiefs became protectionist when setting the ratios.

I certainly hope he will protect the Creative Arts Industry. There are SO many people working in theatre/entertainment who are self-employed and have had NO help whatsoever. I'm not referring solely to actors & actresses but all the very many support staff who make a show possible................one of these is my son, who fortunately is employed and has been furloughed since March. At the age of 34 and having worked extremely hard to achieve his current position, he has no idea if his job, or even his career, will exist after covid (if there is an "after" covid!). What a horrible situation to be in....................... I'm hoping today's announcement will be generous!

Where is all this money coming from?
Rishi seems to have an endless supply.

We'll certainly pay for it later but the tories couldn't bear the embarrassment of mass unemployment. They MUST get the Covid situation right and if they do it will certainly put them in a good position in future years, despite the big payback which is yet to bite us!

Hi

There are either two things that are going to happen, big tax rises or big cuts.

There were a lot of 'none jobs' out there all those coffee shop chains dozens on each high street that just diluted the business and contribute to obesity.

Sorry some have lost their jobs but people made a choice to work there and we have to grit our teeth and not moan about the choices we have made in life.

The Arts industry should be at most mothballed and ALL employees be laid off.
