very true, but there also may well be in a video an instance captured in a frame that can be extracted and made into a photo.
That photo you posted is excellent and well captured, but if taken with a video the whole movement could be broken down into individual photos of say start of the cats jump through to the end.
Taken on a video and made into slow motion would be absolutely fantastic
This is why I am getting more and more into doing videos

Re: Pictures or videos or both?

I thinks it's possible to 'see' or appreciate something without feeling the need to take a photograph or make a video.

Looking at old photos and videos of our family growing up only sends me into a fit of nostalgia. Life lived that can't be done again. I'll leave them for the next generation to find and look at.

WE hang old painting in galleries so we can see what they looked like and dressed. Same with photos for descendants to do the same as with videos if they can still play them

And there it is. Photos will never require technology to work, and therefore will last a lot longer than video, in my opinion.

Re: Pictures or videos or both?

did you see my thread "do it and it works"

to me that is more interesting than just a stills shot even if it is a first effort zooming and panning at the same time

very true but now vinal records are on the way back and interest in them is growing. So maybe in the future the same will happen to videos. it already has with old 1920's silent movies. Even a dedicated TV channel now for them

I agree.
I also can buy a nice frame and put the completed photo somewhere i can see it as I walk past everyday.
That is how I prefer to keep my memories.

RS, if you don't mind me saying, I think your ideas and equipment belong on a more specialist photographic site. Although we have a several dedicated photographers here, the majority of the forum are quite happy with their 'point and shoot' photos, and some jolly good ones we see, too.

Maybe it would be better to try and understand not everyone takes it so seriously as you, whereas a specialist forum would know what you're talking more, and offer their own ideas too.
I doubt you will convert many of us old crocks now, at our age!

That is sort of true. I'm not sure how many people print photos but I think most these days are stored and looked at on a screen rather than printed.

If printing, an inkjet printer would likely be used. Prints done with an inkjet printer can be prone to fading if put in a frame for display, although they might last if kept in the dark (an album for instance).

Dye-sub printer prints don't fade but not many people use those. I'm not sure what process the self-print machines in shops use but if inkjet, then prints might still have a limited life.

We have some photos that were taken years ago on 35mm film and developed by a shop. Some of these have yellowed and faded, even the ones kept in an album. The shop can't have fixed them properly I suppose.

Anyway, photo prints may not always last longer than electronic storage.

Re: Pictures or videos or both?

If you are making a documentary about your holiday, video would be the perfect medium realspeed, but a few photos are all that's required to bring back the memories. I doubt my daughter will go through my photos of places she doesn't recognise with people she doesn't know more than once. I suspect the majority of my photos and videos will be consigned to the waste bin after my demise.....
