Fairy doors to be curbed

I must admit when I first read this I giggled a bit, after all it isnt April 1st just yet..

Then I read on and thought, ahhh how cute, thought about it a bit more and thought about the damage to the trees and the litter..
Now Im undecided..Its a great idea to keep a traditional fable/belief alive but not good if it gets out of control and ruins the area for wildlife and other users.

Maybe a fairy council should be chosen to oversee a set number and placement of doors who would also be responsible for collecting fairy mail?

Or people could just put fairy houses in their front gardens..

Couldn't believe this at first - although a nice idea, it is well out of hand .....

Cute but damaging to the trees. Perhaps they could make a more permanent structure for the fairies and let people have access to that. Lovely idea for the children and those of us who like a bit of imaginative play.

I think that's a lovely idea.
Can see how it would get out of control though, too many would spoil the idea, there should be some sort of law saying only one door per tree.
One door on a tree leaving some trees untouched, in other words spread them out, wouldn't hurt the trees.

Despoiling a natural woodland is a crime in my eyes, so no to doors but yes to seeing fairy rings, look em up if you dont know what im on about.

I agree Nom , I have never heard of 'fairy doors' but think we need a 'keep twee tat out of the countryside campaign'
I am sure someone will come up with an acronym please let it be tasteful

Re: Fairy doors to be curbed

Well if you google fairy houses there are millions of little houses made out of fallen limbs or logs. That seems a less damaging way to do it to me, and no one could complain surely about a few of them dotted around ?

Seems to be an extension of geocaching, but sillier and more damaging.

Re: Fairy doors to be curbed

I'd never heard of fairy doors till now, I had to look it up in Google
I suppose it's alright on existing dead wood & timber, if that's what you like, but I would be against them on growing trees

There seem to be a few examples of silly-ness, tawdry-ness, kitch-iness and similar dubious tastes around at the moment.
We have Fairy Doors, Geocaching, and Steampunk

Can anyone think of any more?
