Do you not have a vaccine record card Pauline?

Realspeed has a thread below on new boarding regs. He (and Mrs. Realspeed) used to own one maybe he'll see this and answer you.

Re: Boarding Kennels

I would imagine most kennels will be booked solid during the height of the holiday season in August Pauline.
If you do find a kennel that half empty in August, I would worry as to why!

Did your dogs never have any vaccination cards? You normally just take them with your for updating when you have the next jab, so what happened? Did he keep them and not give them back to you?
I have never heard of a vet not giving you your record cards before.

You will need to ask him, tell him you need to show it to the kennels or they will not accept your dogs.

Regarding kennel cough vacs, yes, any reputable kennels will want proof this has been done about a week - 10 days I believe - before they allow them in.

Re: Boarding Kennels

Replying on behalf of Barry.

Some kennels may phone your vet for proof of vaccination and some will insist on a card. As for kennel cough vaccine this also depends on the kennel, some want it others don't. If it is needed it should really be done at least 2 weeks before boarding. Here where we live we have to have it done but when we ran the kennels we did not insist on it

As it is August I would expect a lot of the kennels would be full and if not why not! You should really go and have look if there is space just to satisfy yourself as to conditions.

That's what I said too RS.

I don't ever kennel mine, but if I did I wouldn't dream of leaving them unless I had been shown around thoroughly first.

One place I worked at happily escorted people round and answered their questons.

Another place was dead dodgy though. If anyone had the audacity to ask to look around the bloke would tell them to bugger off elsewhere then!

He was licenced to board 200 dogs, but took more.
He used to put several strange dogs in together, they never went out, no exercise paddocks or runs whatsoever.

They were deep bedded on straw and would have to pee and poo in the straw they then had to sleep on.

And the icing on the cake was . . . . he was also a dirty old man! I left after a very short time!

And Pauline, this is why we say look where your dogs will be kept and exercised before you leave them.

Re: Boarding Kennels

If you can't get your dogs into kennels try dogbuddy online .

https://uk.dogbuddy.com

This names people who will look after dogs in their own homes .
Dog buddy shows them near to you and if you think they are suitable you can meet up and see if they are ok for your dogs .
My dog went to a dog buddy for four days and was looked after very well.
As I remember You may need will also require some proof of vaccination too .
One other thing I would say make sure your dogs insurance is up to date before you leave to go away .

Also make sure they are licenced, not the company they come under. It has to be the actual home under the home boarding licence which must by law be on display. many are not and just back street money grabbers. I have yet to hear of any home boarder who cover vet fees so something else to ask about as well
with the kennels we owned the vet insurance was included in the boarding fee, many don't
