WARNING! Britain braced for Mega Cyclone!

Hi, just been reading the weather forecast and it looks as though some of us in the UK are in for a rough ride on Monday night into Tuesday. The heading in the Express says:

QUOTE

UK weather forecast: Britain braced for MEGA CYCLONE - “DANGER TO LIFE” warning issued.

Two tropical storms churning the Atlantic threaten to join forces spawning a deadly mega-cyclone before unleashing a brutal attack on Britain.

“Danger to life” warnings have been issued across swathes of the UK with the union of ex-hurricane Helene and newly-formed Joyce threatening 80mph gales, torrential downpours, flying debris and floods next week.

The brutal assault could open the floodgates to a string of storms forming in the Atlantic throwing roads, airports and other transport networks into chaos, experts warn.

In an added twist, sweltering air dragged in by both systems will push the mercury to 30c (86F) after the weekend.
The entire country will boil in temperatures almost 20C higher than normal for the time of year towards the middle of next week, experts say.

Western Britain will bear the brunt of the attack with eastern regions likely to escape with a blustery but warm and sunny day.

The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for wind across north-west and south-west England, Scotland and Wales from Monday night until Tuesday lunchtime.

Spokesman Grahame Madge said the level-one yellow alert may be upgraded depending on the path and severity of the storm. He said: “The UK’s weather will come under the influence of ex-hurricane Helene although there are other systems in the Atlantic which may modify this particular one.

“There is a warning out from Monday night with Helene expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain mainly across western Britain through Tuesday morning.“We expect to see winds of 80 mph in the worst affected regions, however across eastern Britain it may just be blustery and otherwise warm with some fine weather.
“At the moment we are on a yellow warning but we will continue to monitor the situation and things may change due to the uncertainty of how this will pan out”.

The storm will pull a plume of sweltering tropical air in from the south pushing temperatures widely into the mid 20’s, he said.
.
Storm charts show Helene currently raging across he Atlantic with speeds of 65mph on a northeastward track towards the UK. It’s centre is expected to make a direct hit with Ireland and Western England and Wales during the early hours of Tuesday although turbulent conditions are forecast for Monday night,. Tropical storm Joyce, which formed west of Helene over the past two days, is expected to take a similar path in the run up to the weekend. Hurricane charts show a risk of the two colliding before next Tuesday bringing a supercharged storm to the UK.

Portugal has also issued a tropical storm warning for the Azores Islands.

Helene continues to accelerate northward, almost no change has been made to the track forecast. She may well lose some power on her route across the Atlantic but is still expected to pack a punch when she reaches the UK.

I don't know!! I've packed away my summer wardrobe, and it's forecast to be in the 20's next week,

Hi Mups, I hadn't heard of anything either until I saw the headline!

Hi Rhian, only if you live in the effected areas. Goodness, the way they describe it one would assume the warning sirens aren't already sounding!!! Half of us will be baking in blustery 20+ degrees and the other half at risk of loss of life!! Astonishing and scary!

We live in East Flintshire. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/wales/north_east_wales

It doesn't sound as if the storm is as bad as some scare mongers are predicting.

Oh dear, the Express has a problem writing about the weather, one day they are predicting a foot of snow the next day a heat wave.

I have noticed their 'weather headlines' when reading the Google news page.

No one should take any notice of the stupid tabloid, especially as it tries to be sensational!

Re: WARNING! Britain braced for Mega Cyclone!

The Met offices says it's going to be very windy in parts of the UK a knock on effect from Storm Helene.
There is no mention of 'cyclone' though.

Re: WARNING! Britain braced for Mega Cyclone!

Can't help but agree. I read it online as it was top of the page.
But I notice that the Met Office have put out a storm warning, also the Bristol Post and the Telegraph, so I guess forewarned is forearmed.
