Have the British ever come to terms with the weather?
[or are they just miserable all the time?
My colleague in London tells me:
"Well winter has returned with a vengeance. Last year at this time we were facing a hosepipe ban and drought. Now our aquifers are full and will last for three years. Heavy snow in the North and Scotland. Heavy rain in the South West. Snow here first thing in the morning, but it rapidly melted. However, a bitter cold wind all day."
I think the British could take some lessons from the Scandinavians; but we won't take lessons from anyone - will we?
they design houses for absolute comfort despite the inclement weather outside. Yes I know we now have double glazing - central heating etc etc - but there must be many around the nation who cannot afford this and languish in the cold - how many still die each year from hypothermia?
for many years the ozzies survived WITHOUT aircon - now they cannot. Central heating in this country should be a govt priority for all and the cheapest rates possible.
