Despite my rigorous regime of cleaning my teeth all my life i got gum disease too Honey.
I'm a bit mystified though about the advice you have been given regarding hygienist appointments.
I actually asked a dental
surgeon a few years ago about gum disease and the preventative measures you can take and he told me - quite emphatically - all I could do and
all hygienists could do was to try to keep it in check as there is no definitive cure.
I've lost all but 7 of my own teeth, despite years of caring for them, right down to the years I regularly wore a tooth brush around my neck at all times, much to the mirth of my work colleagues at that time, but you can't fight nature!
I go to a hygienists twice a year; I ignore the revenue -enhancing phrase "
you need it every 4 months" 'cos that's all it is - a means to make more money out of you.
If you do your utmost to try to keep your teeth, no amount of hygienist expertise is going to make that much difference!
It's like everything these days Honey - we're advised this, that, the other "
needs" to be done regularly but it all costs us dosh and some of us mind our dosh better than others yet suffer no more dire effects on their teeth than those who abide by the hygienists / dentist preferred mantra and cough-up more regularly. stevmk2
