Wild Carrot

Also known as Queen Anne's Lace, which sounds a lot prettier.
We have a lot of it growing around here & I remember when I was younger, we'd look for the flowers that had the red dot in the middle,

Some are plain white flowers, some have the black dot, but I never see the ones with the red centre dot anymore

I know there was a little fable too about these dots. Does anyone know about the fable or the truth?
