Re: Chinese Coronavirus

Despite several stranded Australians registering their details with the Government, at least five families say they were not notified of the departing flights, and were left behind.

The ABC has seen emails from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) telling families there were "no plans currently for any more Australian Government assisted departure flights".

New Zealand evacuated 98 New Zealanders, and also gave spare seats to people from 12 countries — including 35 from Australia, 17 from Timor Leste and 17 from Papua New Guinea, according to a spokesperson from New Zealand's Parliament.

According to Reuters, Singapore has evacuated 266 people in two flights from Wuhan. The country's Foreign Affairs Minister, Vivian Balakrishnan, said last Monday in Parliament that the Government "will not leave" any Singaporean behind.

A Melbourne resident said her mother was going to run out of medication soon. The 69-year-old has also developed severe insomnia.

"There are lots of problems and uncertainty if the [Australian] Government is leaving us here," she said.

My daughter is a teacher in a primary school in Brighton. She had only three pupils in yesterday as they were given the choice to attend or stay at home.

I agree. People are beginning to slip through the cracks. In the U.S., one patient who was in quarantine was accidentally released. According to the news, there were two people with very similar names in the facility. The released patient has the virus.

Moreover, I keep hearing about disease control agencies, "Trying to locate people from various flights". Not a good sign.

Does anyone happen to know if the coronavirus is expected to "burn itself out" when the weather starts to warm up (like the flu does) ?

Re: Chinese Coronavirus

A week on from their emergency Wuhan evacuation, most of the Australians sent to Christmas Island from China due to the coronavirus outbreak are past the halfway mark of their 14-day quarantine period.

It has sparked a new exercise in logistics with plans to return them home in full swing, coordinated by a cast of government, health and military officials on the island.

It is expected the first group who left Wuhan on a Qantas evacuation flight will be allowed to fly home on Monday.

They will board buses and be driven along the jungle-lined roads to Christmas Island's small airport.

The drive will be slow to avoid the world-famous red crabs and their larger relatives, the robber crabs, which are given right of way on the island's roads.
