Great pics JBRIndeed Titus Salt was an innovative employer he looked after the well being of those who worked for him ensuring his factories were fitted with dust extraction and that the black smoke bellowing out of the factories in Leeds and Bradford mills was not replicated in Saltaire. Saltaire is well worth a visit as is the David Hockney gallery in the Salts Mill....nice restaurants there too

Actually I read that he named all the streets after his family or close friends.

The poor girl would be the target of constant ribbing at school.

All those old names are coming back, I couldn't believe it when my son told me my little grandson was to be called Stanley I hadn't heard the name for years and it just seemed so old-fashioned and not a baby name at all. He is 5 months old now and Stan suits him fineFanny by gaslight though.....Maybe not
