Coronavirus: Dominic Cummings visited parents' home while he had symptoms

Mr Cummings and his wife went to his parents' home to self-isolate, a source close to the PM's chief aide told BBC's political editor Laura Kuenssberg.

The source insisted Mr Cummings did not break official guidance because the couple stayed in a separate building.

Labour demanded No 10 provide a "swift explanation" for Mr Cummings' actions.

"If accurate, the prime minister's chief adviser appears to have breached the lockdown rules. The government's guidance was very clear: stay at home and no non-essential travel," a spokesman said.

"The British people do not expect there to be one rule for them and another rule for Dominic Cummings."

The Scottish National Party's Westminster leader Ian Blackford said Mr Cummings should resign or be dismissed by Boris Johnson and that it was a "key test of leadership" for the PM.

And Ed Davey, acting leader of the Liberal Democrats, added: "If Dominic Cummings has broken the guidelines he will have to resign, it is as simple as that."
I am aghast at his action ..... but not surprised - he's one of "them":

Robert Jenrick -The housing, communities and local government secretary

Catherine Calderwood - Scotland’s chief medical officer

Nigel Farage - The Brexit party leader
Also Professor Neil Ferguson - Resigned from the government's scientific advisory group (SAGE)

and, of course, Neil Gaiman - English author

Re: Coronavirus: Dominic Cummings visited parents' home while he had symptoms

Helpful Timeline:

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavir...ments-11993086

18 March - At his Downing Street briefing the PM said: "Everyone - everyone - must follow the advice to protect themselves and their families, but also - more importantly - to protect the wider public. So stay at home for seven days if you think you have the symptoms...

"Whole household to stay at home for 14 days if one member in that household thinks he/she has the symptoms...Children should not be left with older grandparents, or older relatives, who may be particularly vulnerable or fall into some of the vulnerable groups."

22 March
- Government guidance states: "People must remain in their primary residence. Not taking these steps puts additional pressure on communities and services that are already at risk...Leaving your home - the place you live - to stay at another home is not allowed."

23 March - Strict lockdown rules are imposed which mean people can only leave their houses for essential travel.

In a TV address to the nation, Boris Johnson says people must stay at home to curb the spread of coronavirus.

27 March - Boris Johnson and Health Secretary Matt Hancock are confirmed to have tested positive for coronavirus.

Mr Cummings is seen running along Downing Street shortly after the prime minister posts a video saying he has contracted the virus.
Weekend of 28 and 29 March - Over this weekend, Mr Cummings is said to have developed coronavirus symptoms.

30 March -
Downing Street confirms Mr Cummings is self-isolating after developing symptoms of the virus.
31 March - According to a joint investigation by The Guardian and the Daily Mirror, Mr Cummings travelled to his family's farm in Durham - and it was on this date that Mr Cummings's family were spoken to by the police.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said:
"On Tuesday, March 31, our officers were made aware of reports that an individual had travelled from London to Durham and was present at an address in the city.

"Officers made contact with the owners of that address who confirmed that the individual in question was present and was self-isolating in part of the house.

"In line with national policing guidance, officers explained to the family the arrangements around self-isolation guidelines and reiterated the appropriate advice around essential travel."

Downing Street has denied the police spoke to Mr Cummings or his family - and said the aide had acted "reasonably" and in line with lockdown rules.

14 April - Mr Cummings is pictured in Downing Street after recovering from coronavirus.
Facts is facts .....

Re: Coronavirus: Dominic Cummings visited parents' home while he had symptoms

The Lefties favourite BBC reporter Laura Kuenssberg has withdrawn her comments about Cummings' going to his parent's house to stay (way back in March BTW) because it turns out that he went to prevent his children catching the virus. They were being looked after by his sister. This action is quite justifiable where children's safety is at risk as per the lockdown rules. It's one thing Neil Fergusson stepping down because he wanted to get his leg over, but quite another when someone wants to protect their family.

No sign thus far of Labour calling for his resignation, how could they when Steven Kinnock is `guilty` of the same thing?

His biggest offence according to most who criticise him was the help, advice, and support he gave that resulted in the wonderful success of BREXIT. His trip is trivial and apparently perfectly justified.

Which rule permits sick parents to travel hundreds of miles to deposit their (possibly infected) children with relatives who, in turn, associate with other relatives who are in the vulnerable category, while they (the parents) "self-isolate" down the road .....

https://www.theguardian.com/politics...lockdown-rules

At a No 10 briefing on 27 April, the health secretary, Matt Hancock, said:
“We understand the impact of not being able to hug your closest family. It affects us all too. We just hope we can get back to that as soon as possible. The best way we can get there, the fastest way, is for people to follow the rules.”
Even now that lockdown rules have been eased slightly, visiting friends or family in their own homes is still off-limits. The current guidance states: “As with before, you cannot visit friends and family in their homes.”

It also says: “We are advising those who are at increased risk of severe illness from coronavirus (Covid-19) to be particularly stringent in following social distancing measures. This group includes those who are aged 70 or older (regardless of medical conditions).

If you are showing coronavirus symptoms, or if you or any of your household are self-isolating, you should stay at home – this is critical to staying safe and saving lives.”

Then why did his sister (or some other trusted person) not come and collect the children? Or send them in a taxi with a trusted chaperone?
Sorry, but it smacks of sheer arrogance and hypocrisy, talk about double standards!
Whatever he has or has not done previously in politics is irrelevant, he should not have done it! Especially when he and his wife actually both had the virus!
As for the children's safety, how were the children being shielded in the car with both their infected parents onboard?!

Edit: And another thing! What about the grandparents, are they at risk?

The rule of necessity and common sense. He did what anyone in his position would have done.

Tell me, do you have something against us Conservatives? If so, what?

Exactly ..... arrogant, hypocritical, irresponsible, inconsiderate and potentially life-threatening .....

I wonder how many times they stopped on the motorway and passed on the virus .....

What have you got against the Conservative party? There's Ms Patel who could possibly be a future Mrs Thatcher, there's this guy, there's BoJo - what's behind the hate?
