But the length of string between your two empty bean cans could get a knot in it and stop them from working.

You have no idea how seriously pissed off I am to read this. I just plugged in my recently deceased Samsung Galaxy S7 tried this and, bugger me, it sprang into life.

I am charging it now just so I can get my contact list off it and put it on my cheap Huawei. (The latter cost a third of the former but seems every bit as good. The only feature it doesn't have is NFT which I didn't turn on anyway)

There's a section on this link specifically for this problem, just look through the list of topics provided:

https://thedroidguy.com/samsung-gala...roubleshooting

Mine is an iPhone so I know nothing about Samsung mobiles but the 'rebooting' as described has sorted out the few problems I've had in the past. Good luck!
Excellent! Good man.

Oops! Sorry to hear that Bruce. That advice is not unusual and would have been forthcoming had you had posted on here for advice. The only thing I didn't know was whether it applied to other mobile phones as I have only ever used iPhones. Mine is four or five years' old now so that's how long that advice has been known personally.

I guess that at least, if nothing else, you can get your Contacts from that phone, many of us don't keep backups of our's and would be lost without them. That reminds me, must check to see if my Contacts are backed-up on iCloud, perhaps they are? Maybe you could sell that phone on as it's now working?

Re: My phone is dead

Sorry to hear about your issues, Bruce.

I now think that most of this problem could have been caused by all the extra downloads and 'add to home screen' icons which I've been keeping as info relating to my job searches last week. My phone was operating slower and more slowly still until it stopped altogether.
I've transferred most of these onto my PC now and my phone is much quicker.
It's similar to checking and clearing the Google Cache each week. It speeds things up.
