Cladding in parliament today!!

Looks like the cladding specialists are due for some well deserved
punishment soon as parliament debates how to finance the
removal of this dangerous product from hundreds of properties
across the country !Imo , the manufacturers and distributors who
lied and distorted safety tests in order to enrich themselves by
installing this totally unsuitable product on high rise blocks of
flats are absolutely to blame for the deaths and for the removal of
this crap from all the relevant buildings and should face
imprisonment for the deaths and be liable for all costs of removal
and recladding with annapproved substitute !!
I believe some of them are allready planning to declare bankruptcy
and they have had nearly 4yrs to squirrel their money away so l
believe a special case should be made in this instance to deny them
bankruptcy !!
All assets should be seized and used to carry out the required
work !!

As it should be. The responsibility / responsibilities have not yet been determined.

I still maintain that it is a systemic failure.

Re: Cladding in parliament today!!

There are also underlying financial problems affecting homeowners following the Grenfell fire, irrespective of subsequent official inquiries or parliamentary 'discussions / debates'. People are being faced with unaffordable insurance premiums and some are being made bankrupt as they cannot afford the shared costs, imposed upon them by landlords, of changing cladding on properties where they live. No fault of their's whatsoever but as a result of the Grenfell fire and some actions taken to prevent other fires in similar blocks of flats.

See the links below for some details of what is happening to those who feel they are being unfairly affected in this way:

Thanks for the links Baz, they show what a mess this all is !
I don't think we can rely on the law to handle this ?
What we need is justice, which the judge is supposed to supply l
believe ??
Can we rely on him?

Yes, a right mess it is! I feel so sorry for those, like a woman on television the other day. She had worked and saved hard to get the deposit together for her first flat and bought one. Then came the Grenfell fire followed by the decision that the cladding on other blocks, including her's, was unsafe so should be removed. Landlords then decided to have the cladding removed leaving her with a bill of £thousands. No way could she afford to pay that so she ended up being made bankrupt! Through no fault of her own she lost her home and had to move back in with her father. We all know life often is c**p but to go through all that is hardly just. I think the government had paid towards the removal of cladding on some blocks but not all. Extremely unfair in the first place but having to wait all this time too just makes that worse.

Re: Cladding in parliament today!!

The home owners are being screwed over by modern day bureaucracy and the government is allowing everyone involved, the developers, building contractors and local council to get away with it all because all of them are turning round and saying it's the home owners responsibility to make the build safe, not theirs and the government agrees with them.

The buildings were built in the 70's using dodgy materials that just passed mustard (safety) and now, because building safety practices have advanced over the years, all these buildings have failed the modern day safety inspections (oh what a surprise) and all those involved are washing their hands of it by saying 'well, it passed safety inspections back in the 70's thus not our problem'. Someone has to pay and it shouldn't be the home owners.

Perhaps they can clad the Houses of Parliament while they are there. The scaffolding is up already, should be a cheap job, get a quote.

Why not? Really. If what they bought was built to code when it was built but code has changed and so they have difficulty selling it now or even is now costly to insure that falls into the category of tough tittie.
