Re: Family found camping on 'dangerous' cliff edge in North Yorkshire

I think we have all done silly things in our life.

This is one ,that I believe I would have had the “ common sense” not to do.

I think they did Dex
Police were also called because the family had breached Covid rules by travelling there, the coastguard said

Can’t really blame them - poor people clearly don’t know the first thing about camping but I’m happy to give them a few lessons.
Lesson 1 - Canvas is better than man made Nylon and polyester.
Lesson 2 - Check the terrain before setting up camp - one gust of strong wind ( without reinforced wind hooks and ropes) and you’re going for a swim.
Lesson 3 - Wild animals (Big 5) is not required in the UK

Think the police were called regarding breach of covid laws, and not for the inherent "trespass" laws due to wild camping. It's unclear who owns the path and the land it's on, but whoever it is should have been asked for their permission to camp there.

The tent was pitched on the Cleveland Way, which, apparently, is part of the North York Moors National Park:

Sod 'em. Seriously. Nature's way is to stop the hard of thinking from reproducing even if it might take a while as in this case.

It is part of The Cleveland Way - and at least the foot path does not run on the edge of a dodgy overhang.

Good to know that somebody does!
