It sounds like I was in the wrong job Omah....

Although I loved engineering so much I would have done it for half as much.... I do it for free now...

Funny you should say that Donkeyman. I watch a lot of quiz shows and when they ask what the contestants do for a living, most of them are either students, Actors, advertising, admin or jobs I don't recognise. Hardly a mention of engineers, plumbers, joiners, bricklayers, Mechanics or hands on manufacturing....

When I ran the London Marathon in 1989 (30,000 runners) the most popular occupation was Engineer. How times have changed...

Downing Street press briefing room pictures revealed

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-56413032

ITV News published the pictures of the US-style briefing room on Monday, which sits within No 9 Downing Street.

Boris Johnson's new press secretary, Allegra Stratton, is to lead daily televised briefings from the room, similar to those held in the White House.

The room, draped in blue and with two Union Jacks flying behind the podium, has rows of chairs ready and waiting for journalists.

But while the briefings had been due to start as early as last autumn, No 10 said they were being delayed while ministers held regular press conferences during the coronavirus lockdown.

The total cost of the refit was revealed by a Freedom of Information request from the Press Association at £2,607,767.67, largely excluding VAT.

Costs included £1,848,695.12 for the "main works", £198,023.75 on "long lead items", and £33,394.63 on broadband equipment.
Somewhat less than impressive for the money .....

Oh for goodness sake! I could have done that for half the money! A few chairs, couple of flags, and a few tins of blue paint! Seriously though? £33, 394.63 on broadband equipment? Who do they think they are - NASA??

It makes you wonder what the proposed "£9,000,000 White House style 'Situation Centre'" in the Cabinet Office will look like .....

Actually you won't get all that much for an installed broadband centre costing £34 grand.

Obviously it'll depend on spec but it'll be the same with a government situation centre. £9 mil isn't unreasonably high either.

Re: £2,607,767.67 spent on new Downing Street media briefing room

https://www.itv.com/news/2021-03-15/...-briefing-room

ITV News understands there are questions being raised over the involvement of a Russian owned company, which was hired to carry out crucial work installing equipment - including microphones, control desks, cameras and computers.

Megahertz, the company contracted to install communications equipment, is owned by Okno-TV, a Moscow-based company that works closely with state controlled broadcaster Russia Today.

Labour Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves said: "This raises serious questions on who is getting rushed-through government contracts. The fact the government seems to have simply brushed this off with no further transparency or assurances on how they're spending British taxpayer money is deeply concerning.”

There is no suggestion Megahertz is working under the influence of the Kremlin. *
* I'd still recommend a sweep for bugs .....

(Perhaps that's what Henry's for ..... )
