it surely isn't easy, I didn't say a word, just listened with a sad feeling in my heart that these girls are way to grown up before their time

Re: how times have changed

All we can do with our young people is treat them how we want to be treated. With respect and understanding. They are not the enemy. They are the future. We should treasure them and support them. They are not "snowflakes" (Christ that ignorant and stupid term infuriates me. When I see somebody use it I feel like slapping them) They are people. And they are going to have to negotiate a much more hostile and difficult world than we did. Remember Dylan's words. They live now just like they did then..

"Your old world is rapidly changing,
Get out of the new one if you can't lend a hand"

Re: how times have changed

I feel the same . I blame the media and television , even in soaps like coronation st or Eastenders shown at 7.30pm and 8pm men kissing men , lying in bed together , women with women, they have made it normal to be bi sexual , asexual , whatever sexual and I dont know the rest of names depicting whether they want to be a girlboy or boygirl or both at the same time . But to these young ones it is now the norm and they dont understand why we dont understand .

That's a sad and approrpriate song, Spitty. (I do like Al Stewart).

Bouncing off your thoughts, Artangel, No it's definitely not right.

The kids Lion Queen is talking about have a looooong way before they are capable of making truly rational life-long decisions for themselves - most especially related to sexuality.

After all, no adult is seeking out twelve and thirteen-year-olds for sage life-long advice - and brain development is the reason for it.

In the preteen and young teen world, everything (according Kohlberg for one) is highly black and white, and they have peer-driven sense of morality. It's either really right or really wrong - and that measuring stick for rightness or wrongness is mostly based on what their peers think.

When adults expose children to something they aren't ready for, it sends them into a rabbit hole of confusion in which they can be traumatized, make terrible decisions, or otherwise harm themselves.

Susan is right, and I'll go as far as saying that it is a form of child abuse to repeatedly expose children to more than they can developmentally handle.

Re: how times have changed

Recently there was a drama on TV called it's a sin . It was on at 9pm . The first episode was in my opinion pornographic all about homosexuality . 9pm is far too early for this type of drama, I was hoping my 15 year old granddaughter wasnt watching it in her bedroom .

I dont care what human beings do in their own private lives but I dont want to be watching numerous men having sex together believe me no imagination was needed .

We didnt have this pushed at us at 9pm . The media are making it all perfectly normal to be what ever you want and do it openly . I know of a 14 yr old who told his mum he thinks he is gay but also likes a girl , his 16 yr old sister says she is gay and is with a girl . They are confused .

Were we ?

Believe me I'm not a prude but it's all gone too far

Remember the words tomboy and cissy? That's all there was back then. I doubt you could use those words now....probably not acceptable.

Hi LQ....its a shame isn't it there seems to be no innocence anymore. I'm sure lots of these young people will regret decisions made in puberty especially if they publish on social media....those declarations stay published forever.
