What separates true friends from acquaintances?

Friendships can be hard, especially if they’re not reciprocal. What’s your definition of a true friend and do you have a true friend?

Not sure really. My brothers keep in touch, that's nice, so I guess they are friends.

Yes they would. Are you saying family don't count?

Myself and a colleague started the business around 50 years ago. We have remained a close knit friends since then.

I have lots of acquaintances, but to me a true friend is someone you can phone at 3am for a chat, and they are happy about it

Re: What separates true friends from acquaintances?

I was once told 'A true friend is someone who knows everything about you and still likes you' .

I don't have a true friend now, the one I had split with her husband and moved away and we sort of drifted apart then lost contact.

Acquaintances are casual friends who come and go.

Re: What separates true friends from acquaintances?

A true friend is someone you can count on, someone you can tell everything about yourself, and they are still loyal. Even if they are angry at you or you them, that does not end the relationship. Since I sleep so poorly some of the time, if someone called me at 3 a.m., I'd be pissed unless it was an emergency.
