Re: The John Lewis Christmas advert

I have to say, in all honesty, that I found it absolutely disgusting.

Not one Chinese / East Asian face.

That's got to be racist.

At least it didn't have that old lecher sitting on the moon drooling over the little girl on Earth like last year (or was that the year before?).

Not wishing to side track this thread (too much!), I looked things up and found, in Wiki:

United States
Racial segregation in the United States was based on a binary classification, white vs. non-white...
As further racial groups were categorized, "white" became narrowly construed, and everyone else was categorised as a "person of color", suggesting that "white" people have no race, while racial subdivision of those "of color" was unimportant.

I wonder whether those people who insisted that the correct terminology for 'black people' should be 'person of colour' have read this historical origin of the term.

Perhaps that's why the description of choice has now changed to 'black' which, of course, was once severely frowned upon.
