Exactly this.
There is a possibility that Monsewer Barmier is playing games and hoping that taking talks right up to a deadline will somehow force the UK into submission.

If that is true I think he has very seriously misjudged (yet again) the UK position - even our local radio station has government ad's many times an hour saying that we must prepare for change in the New Year.
We are ready.
Well, as ready as we can be.
Those who will be affected in EU-land are getting nothing.
Over a billion pounds (yes £ not €) of goods a week they export to the UK, but nothing.
That's why Macron & pals are screeching.
But Barmier doesn't care.

I can't see Macron or the others just staying schtum for ten days, quietly twiddling their fingers.

Re: ANOTHER Last, Last, Last Chance!

A CBI report from July.

https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/11...-latest-update

“The EU has taken fewer steps to reduce the damage of no deal than the UK has, having taken a noticeably less generous, more limited approach to reducing the disruption of no deal.”
In their determination to make Brexit as difficult and damaging to UK they have failed. It will cost them more financially.

The European Commission has so far remained tight-lipped about its no-deal contingency plans, as many believe this could indicate to the UK that Brussels has lost faith in negotiations.

Surely the commission is not so arrogant and do not have any plans for no deal.

Ofcourse it has no plans for a no-deal, they thought Boris would give in to their demands and and stay in the EU

The problem for the EU now is not only do they have no plans for no-deal across the 27 member states, they have to convince the business all over the EU that the gold plated solution that has been given to them by David Frost in legal texts for an unlimited quota, zero tarriff trade agreement will be taken off the table by Brussels.

This will not be popular in the EU

So the pressure on the EU is ...

1. The reduction of the 100 billion a year worth of net imports from them from the UK.

2. The 27 member states who's leaders were promised our fisheries, the level playing field and control of the UK from the ECJ that now isn't going to happen.

3. All the industries in the 27 who supply the UK with goods suddenly realising they have to now compete with the rest of the world due to our zero tarrif MFN limits and the UK not being hamstrung by the CAP.

4. Massive unemployment in the 27, not just because of COVID but because we can trade elsewhere on more favourable terms.

...... and that's before the UK deregulates from EU rules.

I think Barnier has dug his own grave, Boris just needs to stick to his guns.
