It the fault of Chavez. Using the proceeds of oil to bribe the electorate to keep him in power, instead of using them to build an economy which is not solely dependant on oil. He expected world oil prices to soar and instead they plummeted because there is a glut. Maduro is following the same route.

Re: Veneszuelans eating Zoo animals

So far as my knowledge goes, they have been eating their own pets for the last few months too.

The Venezuelans were promised everything in elections of a very oil rich country, but the only commodity they had. An extremely lucrative commodity , which was nationalised by Hugo Chavaz, and the corruption which followed saw the profit going into the wrong hands. Once the prices plummeted, they had nothing to fall back on and refused help from one of the financial institutions (can't remember which one, may have been the IMF or one of the world banks).Anyway, whoever the deal would have been with and what it was likely to be , because it was refused, they washed their hands of Venezuela. Maduro has also refused to accept international humanitarian aid going back to about 12 months ago. I see this as a system that weakens the population into submission .At the same time, Peru called for Columbia, Chile, and Argentina to send in drugs and food, which Maduro also refused.
As one other person explains, visiting the country is not possible, and my brother in laws family have fled to another relation who lives in Spain. Bad times, but it's been gong on a lot longer than we have know about and as the media has been either controlled or cut, there is even less information coming out .

Socialism, the true meaning ! Strangely, Corbyn has not even condemned the actions of this man but why would he,as he has championed Venezuela and it's political movement for a long time now ?

More like USA became non dependent on foreign oil and Russians got their act together that brought down the price of oil.

Did Red Ken help to bring poverty to Venezuela.?????

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/6377867.stm

One quote from the article published in 2006.

But Richard Barnes, deputy leader of the London Assembly Conservatives, attacked the deal.

"Why does London, one of the richest capitals in the world, need to exploit a developing nation? This money would be better directed at the poor of Venezuela," he said.

"But in November 2005, it signed a deal with the US state of Massachusetts to provide cheap heating oil to poor households. Similar deals were also signed in Boston and New York".

Which means the Saudis reducing the price of oil makes you blaming them silly.

Look carefully at the date !!! - the Americans deal with the saudis to reduce the price of oil to below production price post-dates that date.
