RNC 2020: Trump warns Republican convention of ‘rigged election’

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-us-2020-53898142

On Monday, Mr Trump was officially nominated as a formality to be the Republican nominee at his party's convention in the city of Charlotte.

Supporters cheered him, chanting: "Four more years!"

The president is due to give a formal acceptance speech to the party jamboree on Thursday. It is unusual for candidates to address the convention before that point as Mr Trump has done.

Addressing delegates in person at a party conference that has been dramatically scaled back by Covid-19, Mr Trump warned his fellow Republicans their opponents may "steal" November's election, as his party anointed him as their candidate.

"They're using Covid to defraud the American people," Mr Trump told delegates on the first day of the party convention in North Carolina. "The only way they can take this election away from us is if this is a rigged election," he said. "We're going to win."

Opinion polls suggest he currently trails Democratic challenger Joe Biden.
Mr Trump has repeatedly asserted that expanded mail-in voting - which is expected to happen at an unprecedented level due the coronavirus pandemic - will lead to "the most corrupt election" in US history.

But there is scant evidence of widespread voter fraud, and very few examples of any related criminal prosecutions.

Ellen Weintraub, commissioner of the Federal Election Commission, has said: "There's simply no basis for the conspiracy theory that voting by mail causes fraud. None."
Mail-in voting is used by the US military, and even Mr Trump himself and members of his family.
Scaremongering worked for Trump in the last election but will the electorate believe his lies this time .....

I agree with Trump, even despite fraud it's too risky to rely on the postal service to deliver so much mail in the time allowed. The US Mail itself, has cast doubts on its ability to distribute so much mail, bearing in mind that regular mail will still be in the system. Mail goes missing, delivered late, or even gets lost even in the most efficient postal companies.
If able bodied people can't get themselves down to the polling station with ID if that's required (and I think it should be) they should forfeit their vote. Using Covid as an excuse is pathetic! If people are too frightened to turn out, Donald should stay in office until they will go out.

Trump is right. We see double voting here through postal votes by students voting once where they are studying then again by post from their home.

The USA is no different, except in the 2020 Election in the USA you could be looking at up to 80 million rigged votes.

The risk of "fraud" is almost non-existent:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-53353404

The rate of voting fraud overall in the US is between 0.00004% and 0.0009%, according to a 2017 study by the Brennan Center for Justice.

USPS has been deliberately "sabotaged" by its' own Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, a Trump appointee who, instead of ramping up capacity to handle what could be double the number of mail-in ballots cast compared with the last presidential election, took a series of steps this summer that could dramatically cut back USPS ability to handle the unprecedented number of ballots it will receive. He is still under pressure to revoke those changes (currently he is performing badly before the House oversight committee) but has merely "paused" the operation.

Several (mostly Western) states already have postal-only voting, many offer postal voting as an alternative and a few (mostly Southern) require a reason to cast ballots by mail:

US electors also have other options:

https://www.cnet.com/how-to/usps-cri...done-about-it/
  • Vote early in person: Forty-one states allow voters to cast their ballots up to 45 days before election day, letting them avoid crowds.
  • Use a ballot drop box: Many states and counties provide ballot drop boxes for voters to return their mail-in ballot without having to mail it.
  • Drop off your ballot at an election office or polling location: Almost all states permit voters to return a delivered ballot in person at their local election office on or before election day, Elias said, and many states allow voters to drop off their signed and sealed ballots at any in-person voting location.

At the last election, 31,000,000 mailed in their vote - some of them, undoubtedly, would have been for Trump .....

The U.S. military's done it since the Civil War.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/202...itary-n1186926

About 150,000 of the 1 million Union soldiers were able to vote absentee in the 1864 presidential election in what became the first widespread use of non-in-person voting in American history.

By World War II, every state let soldiers vote remotely and the military was responsible for about 3.2 million absentee ballots cast, which amounted to nearly seven percent of the total electorate in the 1944 presidential election, when Franklin Delano Roosevelt won a fourth term in the White House.
31,000,000 US voters cast their ballots by mail at the last Presidential election .....

It is expected that 80,000,000 will vote by mail this time .....

Yes, postal voting is very susceptible to fraud

The risk of fraud where postal voting is horrendously high. IMO it should be discontinued. It is open to abuse in so many ways.

Exactly, it was supposed to be for people who cannot make it to polling booths due to health etc.
