Shock Government Appeal Against Judgement

WHAT!

The NT Government will appeal a landmark Supreme Court ruling that advocates say had the potential to transform remote housing in the Northern Territory.

Last month, the Supreme Court found homes in the remote Central Australian community of Santa Teresa should be "humane and reasonably comfortable", not just "safe".

It was thought the judgment would set a precedent for Government houses in remote places, leading to upgrades in living conditions across the NT.

But those celebrating the landmark ruling were shocked yesterday, when court documents revealed the NT Government Department of Housing would appeal.

To my mind "humane and reasonably comfortable", not just "safe" should be the basic standard to be classed as a minimum requirement. That should also apply to many dwellings all over India too.

Fortunately the NT Government don't build houses in India.
