Walk or fly, Mitchell Falls is a must
By David A. King · · From Pic of the Week
Walk in or fly to Mitchell Fall; either way, it is a must for the Kimberley traveler.
The falls are a 6 kilometer hike from the campground. But, if you are not fit, it can test you.
If walking is not your thing though, don't worry. You can also fly on a helicopter to the falls . Walk in and fly out or fly in and walk out.
Or, walk both ways. We did, it took 6 hours round trip. Along the way we explored Indigenous art sites, swam in the cool lagoon and little Merton Falls (no crocodiles up there) and watched for the Black Grasswren and other birds.
Whichever way you travel, the falls are one of the gems of the Kimberley Region and worth the effort to get there.

Heavenly rays
By Kim Dunstan · · From Pic of the Week
This picture was taken between Strahan and Zeehan on the West Coast of Tasmania from a lookout along the way. It was so serene and picturesque and I was privileged to be there at this exact time.

Pademelon
By Shane Pinner · · From Pic of the Week
Devonport is a coastal town on the north west coast of Tasmania. The Don reserve is situated on the Don river in Devonport.
The Don reserve is an important habitat for flora and fauna.
This is a Tasmanian pademelon which is now confined to Tasmania, as it has become extinct on mainland Australia.
It was an important part of the diet of the now extinct Tasmanian Thylacine, but is still part of the diet for Tasmanian Devils, the Tasmanian wedge tail eagles and the Spotted tail quolls.
Although common in Tasmania they are shy, tend to feed of a night and usually hop away when disturbed to avoid any danger.
I took the photo as it was out in the day time and didn't hop away.
The reserve is great to experience nature all within a five minute drive of the Devonport CBD.

Nuytsia Floribunda
By Bottlenose Creative · · From Pic of the Week
The Lake Muir region is full of beautiful flowering Christmas Trees (Nuytsia Floribunda), but what really stood out to me was the harsh contrast between the vibrant flowers, and the stark-black burnt branches.
