Coronavirus: Tourists should 'Think Twice' about returning to beauty spots

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-england-52620390

A mountain rescue services has asked people planning to drive to beauty spots as lockdown restrictions ease to "think twice" due to safety concerns.

Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team (BPMRT)

The relaxation of the Coronavirus lockdown may have been music to your ears, when the Prime Minister stated that it is now OK to drive any distance to take your exercise.

This came as a total surprise to us, as a Mountain Rescue Team (MRT), Lancashire Police, Forest of Bowland, and many local organisations.

Visitors must remember the hospitality sector remains closed, although some car parks may be re-opening, along with public toilet facilities.

Why are we, Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team, so concerned about the relaxation of the travel to exercise rules?

We are all volunteers and most of us have families who we also need to protect.
Our mountain rescuers will assume all casualties have the potential to infect us. We as rescuers will be socially distancing where possible, will be wearing personal protection equipment and we shall be limiting the number of rescuers attending any incident. This will probably delay our response to anyone in need.

Whilst many of us will want to return to walking, trail running and mountain biking for the health and well-being benefits they provide, safety remains our priority and we ask you to think twice about travelling to the area now that lockdown rules have been eased.
I have no doubt that some idiots will ignore the "warning", fing themselves in difficulty on the fells and expect to be "lifted off" - they may have a long wait .....

All the volunteer rescue services will have found themselves in a similar invidious position caused by thoughtless advice from a shambolic government.

AFAIK, you don't live in a "beauty spot", and, presumably, there is no local Mountain Rescue Team, so I fail to see how your comments are pertinent to the OP .....

'No lifeguards on beaches', coastguard warns

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-52684680

Coastal towns around England have urged visitors to stay away this weekend, as lifeguards warned the "majority" of beaches would not be patrolled.
Tourism bosses in seaside towns have warned attractions will remain closed.

HM Coastguard urged those heading to the beach this weekend to "respect the sea and the coast".

In a social media post, it warned that most beaches "would not be lifeguarded" and said people should "take extra care" regardless of "ability or experience".

Sea swimming is now allowed as daily exercise in England, as well as paddle boarding, surfing, windsurfing, rowing, kayaking and canoeing.

Sailing and the use of private boats are also permitted under the changes.

In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, where lockdown rules remain in place, people should continue to remain at home, the coastguard said.

The reminder came alongside calls for people to avoid visiting the country's coastal regions, including:
  • Tourism bosses in Cornwall and Devon told visitors to "stay away"
  • Blackpool council reminding tourists "traditional attractions that you want to see" would not be open
  • The leader of Brighton and Hove City Council warning people that their "favourite places" were closed
  • Mayors of three North Yorkshire seaside towns expressed concern they could be overwhelmed

I think at the moment the only state border open is between NSW and Victoria all the other state borders are effectively closed unless you want to spend 14 days in quarantine.

The only exception are goods which are protected in the constitution or workers who live in one state and work across the border. You cannot cross the state border for tourism you will be sent back.

Hi

Shrewsbury is beautiful, old medieval buildings, still has the town walls and the Quarry Park.

It is a very popular place to visit.

No Mountain Rescue Team, but what we do not want is loads of visitors spreading infection.

We have a low rate of infection here and want to keep it that way.
