Nothing to do with compassion but if you see the terrible things these people bring to our countries and the lack of compassion they show for the ruined lives you get an idea why it's difficult to be too riled up about their fate. As I said earlier it is extremely easy not to be executed, they chose not to do that and volunteered for it by thinking their needs are more important than the lives of the people they are ruining.

The suffering these people cause is beyond measure. They knew what would happen if caught but they chose to ignore that and take the chance.

Murderers:- Taking someones life must be the ultimate crime.
Drug Smugglers:- Still taking away life, albeit indirectly.
Paedophiles:- Interfering with the future lives of children. Death Penalty?
Rapists with violence:- Very Serious, long prison term, but not death penalty?
Rapists without violence:- Sometimes hard to prove. Long prison term if proved beyond doubt.
